Summer Fete & Rose Queen: 1st July 3-7pm

June 18th, 2018 | Posted by Georgina Ryder in News - (Comments Off)

After the overwhelming success of our inaugural Summer Fête last year, the Parish Council is delighted to confirm that we are again hosting the event. It is our intention to make this a part of Prestbury’s social calendar and to facilitate this now and going forward. we intend to give the event a permanent date on the first Sunday in July. Thus, this year’s event will be between 3pm-7pm on Sunday 1st July.

Building on last year’s event we will again have a strong family theme but hope that there is something for everyone to enjoy. We have double the number of donkeys’ for trips around Parrott’s Field in addition to face painting, balloon art and fairground rides. The ever popular vintage cars will again be putting in an appearance with a number of additions. Running alongside Parrott’s Field on New Road, there will be an artisan market with lots of fresh produce to tempt your fancy while at the opposite end of the village, we will have the stage and live music. Throughout the village, the businesses will be coming out onto the street where they will be joined by many of our community groups and societies.

Perhaps the most significant change to this year’s proceedings will be the incorporation of the crowning of the Rose Queen into proceedings at the request of St Peters. At 3pm a short parade will begin at St Peter’s and end at the stage by the Castle Hill roundabout. Thereafter the Rose Queen will be crowned by Menna Fitzpatrick MBE. Menna has a long and connection with Prestbury having attended school here, been active within St Peter’s, and when not becoming our most successful ever Paralympian she still volunteers with the Brownies in Prestbury. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend at 3pm to recognise her achievement.
